Program Details

A new registered program aimed at homeschool families. This will be held on the second Wednesday of each month between 10 AM and noon, including activities for guided self-exploration as well as a facilitated experience. This will cost $5 per student, paid at the door (so no need to pay at registration). Parents will be encouraged to stay with students, and there will be learning resources available for them to support the program.
We often have tour inquiries from homeschool groups, but they almost always find the cost prohibitive and end up bringing the groups individually and creating mayhem in the museum. This program will hopefully allow homeschool families to engage in the museum in a more cost-effective, ongoing way that allows staff control over the learning and keeps the collection safe from wandering-hands.

Suitcase Program

The “Suitcase Program” is a new school-based outreach program in development. These mobile outreach programs will be based around three themes. Program is set to begin in February 2026.

Upcoming Program Themes

The Beaver Hills
Agriculture and Industry
Early Sherwood Park

Program Details

Each “suitcase” will include related education collection artifacts, reproduction archival photos and documents, an educators guide with curriculum connections, and activities.
This offering aims to respond to challenges teachers are facing in getting their students to the museum – including the costs related with busing and large class sizes. While this program will not be free, we will be piloting it at $100/week. This will allow schools to check the suitcase out and share it among multiple classrooms. Each teacher who checks it out will be given a survey to provide feedback to allow us to make updates and market these appropriately.

We acknowledge the traditional lands and territories of the Indigenous Peoples who have lived on these lands and taken care of them since time immemorial. We respectfully acknowledge that we are on Treaty 6 territory, lands which are known as Amiskwaciy, Cree for “The Beaver Hills”. This region has been important for the Néhiyawak, Niitsitapi, Tsuut’ina, Anishinaabe, Nakota Sioux, and later the Métis. Many other tribes, including the Inuit, traveled and harvested on these lands. We acknowledge their collective stewardship. We are all Treaty People living together on these lands and we remain responsible to one another, the land, its resources, and to Treaty 6. We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation.
