


​Archives Assistant
The Strathcona County Heritage Foundation (SCHF) has received funding for an archival assistant position at the Strathcona County Museum & Archives. The archives assistant will work with the Collections & Archives Coordinator and archives team to receive, process, and make accessible archival materials significant to Strathcona County. The purpose of this position is to provide support for on-going community digitization projects and ensure archival best practices are being met.

Details
Job Type: Contract, 1-year
Pay Range: $23.00-25.00 depending on experience

Duties
-
Process backlogged archival material (including cataloguing, conservation, and storage)
-
Re-house improperly stored archival materials
-
Digitize archival materials
-
Upload images and information to the online database for public access

Creation of policies and procedures related to archives and special collections
-
Provide reference / information services to users of the Archives
-
Assist Collections Team with exhibit development

Other administrative and operational duties as required, including light janitorial duties
Qualifications

University degree in archival studies OR a certificate in archives/archival administration OR degree in a related field
-
Some experience working in archives
-
Knowledge of the Rules for Archival Description (RAD) and archival theory; experience processing archival records
-
Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.

Able to communicate fluently in English
-
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in both team-based and self-directed environments
-
Professionalism, organizational skills and attention to detail

Assets
-
Working knowledge of photo editing and digitization programs like Photoshop or similar and the online collections databases such as FileMaker Pro and CatalogIt
-
Knowledge of digital preservation theory and practice
-
Strong understanding of copyright, privacy and information access laws as they apply to the Archives

Due to the nature of the job, Strathma employees are encouraged to have an up-to-date tetanus vaccination.
