About the event

Gift-giving has always been a cherished tradition in Indigenous cultures, and this holiday season, you can be a part of that meaningful practice by creating your very own multimedia holiday card with Indigenous artist Connie Kulhavy.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll not only learn the art of card making but also discover the deep cultural significance of the materials and stories that shape the cards. Connie will share how Indigenous medicines, such as moose and caribou hair, are incorporated into her artwork, adding layers of tradition and connection. These elements are thoughtfully included by Connie herself in the cards she creates, offering a rich glimpse into her artistic process.

Participants will also have the opportunity to explore storytelling through art, learn to paint beautiful birch trees, and craft cards that carry personal meaning. While all supplies will be provided, feel free to bring special charms or items that can be…

We acknowledge the traditional lands and territories of the Indigenous Peoples who have lived on these lands and taken care of them since time immemorial. We respectfully acknowledge that we are on Treaty 6 territory, lands which are known as Amiskwaciy, Cree for “The Beaver Hills”. This region has been important for the Néhiyawak, Niitsitapi, Tsuut’ina, Anishinaabe, Nakota Sioux, and later the Métis. Many other tribes, including the Inuit, traveled and harvested on these lands. We acknowledge their collective stewardship. We are all Treaty People living together on these lands and we remain responsible to one another, the land, its resources, and to Treaty 6. We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation.
